A “Tethered“ Hot Air Balloon

(From the Airial Balloon Company Website, www.airialballoon.com)

"In addition to allowing your guests to see a balloon up close, tethered hot air balloons can provide them the opportunity to experience a balloon ascension of about 30 to 50 feet above the ground.  (The balloon is harnessed with lines that secure it to the ground so your guests won't float away on "free flight.")  The balloon we use to tether accommodates four passengers at a time.  Each ascension lasts approximately five minutes.

Airial Balloon Company has been flying the Snohomish area since 1981.  We were voted the Best Hot Air Balloon Ride in the Romantic Excursion category of the 2003 "Northwest Backroads Great Escapes" poll.  Our FAA-certified pilots have logged thousands of commercial flight hours and we have a perfect safety record."

OK, that all sounds great: a pleasant ride, slight summer breezes and a lovely view EXCEPT we have had this arranged for the last two August Festivals and the weather hasn’t cooperated--it has been rainy and windy both days.  Are we “jinxing” this year’s party by doing this?  Possibly, but we’re a tenacious group.  That said, if the weather is poor this year look for a different Special Event in 2014 . .

Note:  Balloon set-up starts at 1:30 p.m., with “flying” starting at 2:30 p.m.  Balloon flights are always "weather permitting", as we know.

See our "new" 1939 John Deere Model D Tractor

                                    John Deere Model D Tractor

The "Model D" was the first tractor model to bear the John Deere name, and also the longest-running John Deere tractor model ever made (1923-1953).  The 1939 Model D was the first of the "styled" John Deere tractors--designed for John Deere by "celebrity designer' Henry Dreyfuss.  Ours is one of the first "styled" Model Ds.  We'll be starting it during the party.  Come see a piece of history.
